At the end of the school year, Dr. Jim Kennedy will be leaving UCLA Lab School to plan and open new schools.

Dr. Kennedy says he hopes to enjoy his next job and said that what he will miss the most about UCLA Lab School is the staff, kids, teachers, and parents.

Dr. Kennedy’s goal was to open a line of schools for UCLA Lab School, but since that opportunity was unable to proceed, he has decided to open new schools elsewhere.

He and the staff have not decided who the next principal will be but, according to him, a lot of care will be done to find the next principal.

Amanda Baird and the UCLA Lab school students are performing the play 'High School Musical 2' on January 21 in Community Hall.

The musical was selected by Amanda Baird, Mr. Goulet, and faculty because they thought it would be a fun show for the children and they thought that most kids are familiar with the play. They also thought the play had some catchy songs to sing and dance to.

The rehearsals began on Thursday September 24, 2009. They practice in Community Hall every Thursday at  2:45 pm.

People will be able to see the play in Community Hall at 6:30 pm on January 21, 2009.

Third and Fourth Graders Get a Great Overnight Experience

On the 15th and 16th of October, 2009, the UCLA LAB SCHOOL third and fourth grade held an over-night at school so the kids would get to know each other as well as the teachers.

At the over-night the activities were: physical activities, set-up for the night, gummy fruit snack, singing with Mr. Goulet the music teacher, movie watching, pizza dinner, play time, story telling at the library with library teacher Ms. Cantor, flashlight walk around the school, campfire at the north yard, and 9:00 lights out.

At the campfire, all the intermediate classes joined at the north yard to sing songs with Ms. Quintanilla around an actual campfire.

In the morning, once each kid had woken up, the kids divided into boy/girl groups and got dressed. After they finished watching the movie they had started the previous night (rooms 7&8 watched 'Finding Nemo,' rooms 1&2 watched 'James and the Giant Peach,' and room 18 watched 'Chicken Run').

The last event was that the parents came for a breakfast.

Storytelling Breakfast Finally Arrives!

A few weeks ago, the UCLA Lab School Fourth and Third graders held a Story-telling breakfast.

The kids wrote stories and practiced them for weeks and weeks. Finally, the story-telling breakfast came.

First, the school's current story-teller, Antonio Sacre, told stories of his childhood and stories of the books he had written.

After that, the kids got into their separate groups and told their stories to the parents. Each student had written a personal narrative based on anything school appropriate.

Antonio (the story-teller) helped them with their stories by teaching them how to add gestures and sound effects.
